It is disappointing to hear that Switzerland has joined some other countries in banning the niqab. As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, I condemn this decision, which violates values of democracy.
The Supreme Head of the Ahmadiyya community, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, has said that decisions such as these have no impact on economic, social or moral values of a country. On the contrary, these actions will only fuel and strengthen the foundations of hatred within society.
All Muslims residing in Canada, particularly women, must be grateful for this great nation which allows people of all faiths to practise their social, cultural, and religious beliefs freely. Canada is an example for the world when it comes to religious freedom.
